Moldy OSB - Oriented Strand Board

Yes, in our travels throughout suburbia, we come across mold -- often on OSB (oriented strand board). OSB is used extensively in the construction industry as roof, wall and floor sheathing instead of plywood, which used to be used. OSB is also used in the manufacture of TJIs or TGIs, which are structural members used to support the weight of the whole house. OSB is a good material, but only if you keep it dry. Once wet, it swells and offgases numerous chemicals (VOCs). Worse yet, mold LOVES to grow on wet OSB. Both these images show microbial growth on oriented strand board. Is is any wonder that the houses had real bad musty/chemical odors?
